Key takeaways
- Most Kraken deposits arrive within minutes: ACH through Plaid, PayPal, and debit cards are near-instant, and USD wires take 0–1 business days.
- Crypto deposits appear only after Kraken's required confirmations: near-instant on Solana and XRP, about 6 minutes on Ethereum, and about 45 minutes for bitcoin.
- The usual reasons a crypto deposit never shows up are the wrong network, a missing XRP tag or memo, an amount below Kraken's minimum, or an expired deposit address.
- Deposits below the minimum are permanently lost. Kraken can recover some wrong-network and missing-memo deposits, sometimes for a fee of up to $500, but recovery isn't guaranteed.
- Kraken has no public support phone number. Use the Support Center or the Call us option inside its apps, and treat any number in search results as a scam.

Most Kraken deposits arrive within minutes. ACH through Plaid, PayPal, and debit card deposits are near-instant, and USD wires take 0–1 business days. Crypto deposits show up only after the blockchain confirms them enough times: almost instantly on Solana and XRP, about 6 minutes on Ethereum, and about 45 minutes for bitcoin. If yours is late, the cause is usually one of five things: confirmations still running, the wrong network, a missing tag or memo, an amount below Kraken’s minimum, or a manual review (On hold).
This guide covers how long each deposit type takes, what each status means, how to track down a missing deposit, and what Kraken can and can’t recover. It’s based on Kraken’s own support documentation, checked on October 2, 2026.
How long do Kraken deposits take?
Kraken calls its processing times estimates that are outside its control, so treat the numbers below as typical, not guaranteed.
USD deposits
| Method | Minimum | Fee | Typical time | Withdrawal hold afterward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ACH through Plaid (“Linked bank transfer”) | $1 | Free | Near-instant (up to about 5 minutes) | 7 days |
| PayPal | $1 | PayPal processing fee, shown before you confirm | Near-instant | 72 hours |
| Debit card | $10 | $0.25 + 3.75% | Near-instant | 72 hours |
| Wire (FedWire through Dart Bank) | $1 (Kraken suggests at least $30) | Free | 0–1 business days | None |
Deposits that land instantly can be traded right away. The hold only delays withdrawals, and only for an amount equal to the deposit; Kraken withdrawal on hold explains how it works. A few US-specific rules also apply:
- Texas residents have fewer USD options. Plaid ACH isn’t available to Kraken accounts in Texas, and Kraken’s US funding requirements page (updated October 1, 2026) lists its wire and Plaid ACH funding as unavailable there, although another Kraken page says Texas residents can fund in USD with a US government-issued ID. Check what your deposit screen offers.
- Plaid only works with banks on Plaid’s list. If your bank isn’t there, use a wire instead.
- Plaid deposit limits are weekly, and the number of deposits is capped per 24 hours. Kraken adjusts both automatically based on your account history, and it can’t raise them on request.
- PayPal deposits are capped at $7,000 per rolling week, and the PayPal account must be in the same name as your Kraken account.
- Wires use account details unique to you, found under Deposit > USD > Wire Transfer. They stay the same for future wires, and no reference code is needed.
- Kraken doesn’t take checks or cash. It says any checks it receives will be destroyed.
Crypto deposits
Kraken credits a crypto deposit only after it has enough confirmations on its blockchain, which protects against double spending. Each new block adds one confirmation, so the wait depends on the network:
| Coin and network | Confirmations Kraken requires | Typical time | Minimum deposit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin (BTC) | 3 | About 45 minutes | 0.0001 BTC |
| Bitcoin on Lightning | Not listed | Near-instant | 0.00001 BTC, plus a 0.30% deposit fee |
| Ethereum (ETH) | 30 | About 6 minutes | 0.004 ETH |
| Solana (SOL) | Not listed | Near-instant | 0.01 SOL |
| USDC on Ethereum | 30 | About 6 minutes | 2.5 USDC |
| USDC on Solana | Not listed | Near-instant | 0.4 USDC |
| USDC on Base | Until finalized | About 20 minutes | 2.5 USDC |
| USDT on Ethereum | 30 | About 6 minutes | 2.5 USDT |
| USDT on Tron | 20 | Near-instant | 2 USDT |
| XRP | Not listed | Near-instant | 0.0001 XRP, plus a destination tag |
| Litecoin (LTC) | 12 | About 30 minutes | 0.01 LTC |
| Dogecoin (DOGE) | 40 | About 40 minutes | 1 DOGE |
Confirmations and times come from Kraken’s processing-times page (updated October 1, 2026), and minimums from its fees-and-minimums page (updated September 3, 2026). Kraken says both can change without notice, so check the deposit screen in your account before you send. Kraken doesn’t limit crypto deposits, apart from Monero (XMR).
The times assume your transaction is confirmed in the first possible block. If it isn’t, for example because the network is busy, it can take much longer, and Kraken can’t speed up confirmations.
Why is my Kraken deposit pending or not showing up?
One rule applies to everything: Kraken only accepts deposits, crypto or cash, from verified accounts. If you haven’t finished verification, start with Kraken verification not working.
Crypto deposits
Kraken’s support center lists these as the most common reasons a crypto deposit doesn’t appear:
- It’s still confirming. Your wallet may say “sent” or “complete” well before Kraken’s required confirmations are in. Look the transaction up on a block explorer and compare the count with the table above.
- It went on the wrong network. Kraken only credits a coin on the networks it lists for that coin. Its own example is sending a token over BNB Smart Chain when Kraken supports it only on Ethereum. A deposit like that won’t appear automatically.
- The tag or memo is missing or wrong. XRP needs a destination tag; Stellar (XLM) needs a memo unless you use a muxed address; Stacks (STX) and EOS need a memo. Every Kraken account shares one XRP deposit address, so the 10-digit tag is how Kraken knows the XRP is yours.
- It was below the minimum. What arrives, after your wallet’s network fee, has to meet Kraken’s minimum. Smaller deposits are marked Failed and are permanently lost, and sending more later won’t credit the first one.
- The address had expired. If you create more than five deposit addresses for the same coin, the oldest is set to expire in seven days. Addresses also expire when Kraken stops supporting an address format. Expiring addresses are labeled, and deposits sent to an expired one aren’t guaranteed to be credited.
- It was the wrong coin for the address, such as Litecoin sent to a Bitcoin address.
- You copied a Kraken hot wallet address from a block explorer instead of using your own deposit address. Those deposits aren’t credited automatically.
- It went through a privacy tool. Kraken doesn’t credit deposits sent through Litecoin MWEB, Dash PrivateSend, CoinJoin, or similar tools, and says they may be lost.
- The network is under maintenance or delayed. Check status.kraken.com (opens in a new tab).
- Your wallet software was out of date when a blockchain upgraded through a hard fork, so the coins went out on the old chain and never arrived. Kraken says this has happened with Monero.
- Kraken missed it. Rarely, a valid deposit isn’t credited automatically because of network congestion, delayed confirmations, or mismatched details. Kraken says this is “not a mistake from the users” and credits it free once you contact support.
USD deposits
- The wire hasn’t reached Kraken’s bank yet. If your deposit has no status at all, Kraken says it hasn’t arrived at its bank, or a required reference was missing. Wires only move on banking days.
- You sent ACH to the wire details. Kraken’s wire account accepts FedWire only, not ACH, micro-deposits, or Real-Time Payments. An ACH transfer sent to those details fails, and Kraken says the money can take up to 10 business days to return to your bank. For ACH, use Linked bank transfer (Plaid) in Kraken instead.
- The names don’t match. The bank account must be in the same legal name as your Kraken account; for a joint account, one of the names must match. Business bank accounts can only fund Kraken business accounts. Kraken says a mismatched deposit will most likely be returned.
- You went over your deposit limit. A standard verified individual account can deposit up to $100,000 in any 24 hours and $500,000 in any 30 days, counted in US dollars, and your own limits may differ. A deposit over the limit goes On hold. You’ll find your limits under Limits in Account Settings.
- You sent the same amount twice within 72 hours. Kraken flags repeat amounts as possible duplicates and holds them until they’re released automatically. Use a different amount for each deposit.
- The money came from a fintech or brokerage app. Kraken accepts transfers from third-party payment processors such as Mercury and Relay only when it can confirm the source account is yours. It may hold the deposit and ask for a receipt and an account statement.
- It’s a bank holiday. Kraken’s US banking partners, Dart Bank and Customers Bank, don’t process transfers on federal bank holidays. The rest of 2026 brings Columbus Day (October 12), Veterans Day (November 11), Thanksgiving (November 26), and Christmas Day (December 25).
What each Kraken deposit status means
Kraken shows a status for each deposit. In Kraken Pro, open Portfolio, stay on Overview, and click Funding transactions; click any deposit for its details.
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No entry yet | A wire hasn’t reached Kraken’s bank, or a crypto deposit is still confirming | Check your bank’s transfer receipt, or look the transaction up on a block explorer |
| Pending | A wire was received and is being processed | Contact Support if it’s still pending after 3 hours |
| Confirming | Kraken’s banking partner has received the wire | Contact Support if it’s still confirming after 3 hours |
| Success | Received, processed, and credited | Nothing. If you can’t see the money, check you’re looking at the right asset |
| On hold | Kraken’s team has to check it manually | Contact Support; Kraken may also contact you |
| Fail | The deposit failed | Crypto: it was probably below the minimum. Cash: check the beneficiary name, then contact Support |
Kraken documents Pending and Confirming for USD wires. Some On hold deposits are released automatically, while others need Kraken Support. If Kraken can’t release one, it sends the money back and holds an equal amount of your other balances until the deposit shows Returned.
How to track down a missing Kraken deposit
- Find it in Kraken. Open Funding transactions (see above) and check the deposit’s status and details.
- For crypto, get the transaction ID (TxID) from the wallet or exchange you sent from, and look it up on a block explorer for that network.
- Check where it went. The receiving address should be one of your Kraken deposit addresses for that coin, on a network Kraken supports for it, and not marked as expired.
- Count the confirmations. If the explorer shows fewer than Kraken requires, the deposit is still on its way.
- Check the amount and the tag. Was what arrived above Kraken’s minimum? For XRP, XLM, STX, or EOS, did you include the tag or memo?
- Check status.kraken.com (opens in a new tab) for maintenance or delays on that network.
- For a USD wire, check your bank’s receipt. Confirm Kraken’s wire details, your full legal name, and that your bank sent a FedWire, not an ACH transfer.
If the transaction is confirmed, went to your own Kraken address on a supported network, and was above the minimum, it should be credited. If it still isn’t, contact Kraken Support.
What to do if your Kraken deposit still hasn’t arrived
Contact Kraken Support through official channels only: sign in at support.kraken.com (opens in a new tab) and use the chat or a guided support request (opens in a new tab). For a crypto deposit, include:
- the transaction ID (TxID)
- the coin and the amount
- the deposit address you used
- the date and time you sent it
Kraken may ask for screenshots or other documents. For a wire stuck in Pending or Confirming, Kraken says to reach out after 3 hours. If a wire still has no status after Kraken’s 0–1 business day estimate, check your bank receipt and any bank holiday first, then contact support. Don’t contact Kraken’s banks or payment processors yourself: Kraken says that only adds delays.
Can Kraken recover a deposit sent to the wrong network or without a memo?
Sometimes. Kraken has a recovery process for misrouted deposits, but it says not every case can be recovered, recovery can take a while, and some cases cost a fee that it tells you about before it starts:
| Problem | Recovery fee | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Valid deposit that wasn’t credited | Free | Credited to your account |
| Missing or wrong tag or memo | Network fee | Credited or refunded |
| Sent to a Kraken hot wallet address | Network fee | Refunded |
| Unsupported token on a supported network | $200 | Refunded |
| Unlisted asset on an unsupported network | $500 | Refunded |
Kraken calls the last case one of the hardest to recover because of how blockchains work, and high-value or manual cases take longer. Deposits below the minimum can’t be recovered at all: Kraken says they’re permanently lost.
How to avoid Kraken deposit problems next time
- Copy the address from Kraken’s deposit screen each time, and choose the same network in your sending wallet. Don’t type it by hand or copy it from a block explorer.
- Send a small test first, but above the minimum. A test smaller than Kraken’s minimum, after network fees, is lost.
- Always add the tag or memo for XRP, XLM (unless you use a muxed address), STX, and EOS. If you scan Kraken’s QR code for EOS, type the memo in by hand.
- Check for expiring addresses under Manage deposit addresses. Addresses marked New Address or Used Address are fine to use.
- Skip privacy tools such as MWEB, PrivateSend, and CoinJoin when sending to Kraken.
- For dollars, use Plaid or a FedWire from a personal checking account in your own name, since savings accounts may limit transfers. Never send ACH to Kraken’s wire details.
- Use different amounts if you send several deposits within 72 hours.
- Fund ahead of time if you’ll need to withdraw soon: card, PayPal, and ACH deposits come with withdrawal holds of 72 hours to 7 days.
Beware of fake “Kraken support” numbers
A real Kraken specialist will never ask for your password, a 2FA or device approval code, your seed words or Master Key, or remote access to your computer. The FTC warns that scammers pay to put fake customer-service numbers in search results, then offer to “resolve” your problem if you wire money or send gift cards, or ask for personal details or remote access. If you’ve been targeted, see where to report a scam.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a Kraken deposit take?
ACH through Plaid usually takes up to about 5 minutes, and PayPal and debit card deposits are near-instant. USD wires through Dart Bank take 0–1 business days. Crypto deposits appear after Kraken's required confirmations: near-instant for Solana and XRP, about 6 minutes for Ethereum, and about 45 minutes for bitcoin.
Why is my Kraken deposit still pending?
A crypto deposit usually hasn't reached Kraken's required number of confirmations yet, or the network is busy or under maintenance. For a USD wire, Pending or Confirming means Kraken or its banking partner is processing it, and Kraken says to contact Support if either status lasts more than 3 hours.
Why is my Kraken deposit on hold?
On hold means Kraken has to check the deposit manually. Common reasons are going over your deposit limit, a bank account name that doesn't match your Kraken account, a request from your bank, a missing deposit reference, or several deposits of the same amount within 72 hours. Some holds are released automatically; others need Kraken Support.
Why did my Kraken deposit fail?
Crypto deposits below Kraken's minimum, measured after network fees, are marked Failed and can't be recovered. A USD wire can fail if the beneficiary name is wrong, and a transfer sent as ACH to Kraken's wire details fails and can take up to 10 business days to return to your bank.
What happens if I sent crypto to Kraken on the wrong network?
It won't be credited automatically. Contact Kraken Support with the transaction ID, coin, amount, deposit address, and date. Kraken charges $200 to recover an unsupported token sent on a supported network and $500 for an unlisted asset on an unsupported network, and recovery isn't guaranteed.
I forgot the XRP destination tag. Can Kraken still credit my deposit?
Usually, but expect a delay. All Kraken accounts share one XRP address, so the 10-digit destination tag tells Kraken whose deposit it is. Submit a support request with the transaction details. Kraken lists the recovery cost as the network fee and warns that some untagged deposits can't be retrieved.
Can I deposit a check or cash to Kraken?
No. Kraken doesn't accept US checks or cash and says any checks it receives will be destroyed. Fund your account with a linked bank transfer through Plaid, a wire, PayPal, or a debit card instead.
