Key takeaways

  • Binance.US says accounts are most often disabled for four reasons: an unpaid negative balance, a fraud alert, living in a state it doesn't serve, or failed identity verification.
  • Some blocks only stop withdrawals and lift on their own: 48 hours after a password, 2FA, or phone change, and 120 hours after an email change.
  • If you disabled your account yourself, you can reactivate it on the Binance.US website with a government ID and a phone camera, without contacting support.
  • Binance.US allows one account per Social Security number. Opening a second account to get around a block gets the new account rejected.
  • Inactive accounts can be turned over to your state as unclaimed property after 2 to 5 years of inactivity. Logging in now and then prevents it.

Binance.US restricts or disables accounts for four main reasons: an unpaid negative balance from a failed or reversed deposit, a fraud alert, living in a state it doesn’t serve, or identity verification that failed or isn’t finished. Not every block is serious. A withdrawal lock after a security change lifts on its own within 48 to 120 hours, and if you disabled the account yourself, you can reactivate it on the Binance.US website in a few steps. Everything else starts with fixing the cause and contacting Binance.US support through chat.

This guide explains each type of block, what it stops, how to lift it, how long reviews take, and what happens to your money if an account closes. It’s based on Binance.US’s help center and terms, checked on October 2, 2026.

What each Binance.US account block means

What happened What it blocks How it ends
You changed your password, 2FA, or phone number Withdrawals only; trading and deposits still work Lifts after 48 hours
You changed your email address Withdrawals only Lifts after 120 hours
“Withdrawals suspended due to risk management” (a failed deposit or chargeback) Can disable trading, withdrawals, or deposits Settle the negative balance; documents are reviewed in 24–72 hours
Identity verification needed Withdrawals, and possibly other services Send the documents support asks for in chat
You disabled the account Everything, including signing in Self-serve reactivation on the website
Binance.US disabled the account Depends on the reason Fix the cause, or contact support
Too many failed sign-ins Signing in Wait it out (24 hours per one help page, 2 hours per another)
You live in an unsupported state Access to the account Move to a supported state and update your address
Law-enforcement freeze The whole account Binance.US may freeze it for two weeks while it reviews the request

Binance.US uses the words restricted, disabled, locked, and suspended loosely and doesn’t define each one, so match your situation to what’s blocked rather than to the label.

Why Binance.US restricts or disables accounts

Binance.US says “common reasons for account disablement on Binance.US include unresolved negative balances, fraud alerts, unsupported state residency, and failed identity verification.”

1. An unpaid negative balance

If a deposit bounces, for example because your bank account didn’t have enough money or your bank reversed the payment, your Binance.US account ends up with a negative balance. Binance.US can then disable trading, withdrawals, or deposits until it’s paid.

To clear it, deposit USD, USDT, or another cryptocurrency, or buy USDT through a third-party provider, to cover the amount. Binance.US doesn’t deduct the balance automatically, and other assets must be converted to USD first. Once it’s settled, restrictions lift. Binance.US may also ask for your latest bank statement, or a video of you holding your ID, and says it reviews documents within 24 to 72 hours.

Don’t wait on this one. Binance.US warns that negative balances “may result in asset liquidation in as little as 48 hours,” and its terms let it collect from your linked payment methods or refer the debt to a collections agency.

2. A fraud alert

Binance.US sometimes places a temporary fraud alert on an account and says clearing it may require confirming details with its support team. If you’re the one who spots suspicious activity, Binance.US recommends disabling your account right away to protect your assets. If you’re locked out and think someone else got in, contact chat support immediately so the team can secure the account.

3. You live in a state Binance.US doesn’t serve

Residents of unsupported states can’t access their accounts. Binance.US serves 38 states plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, but not Texas, New York, or 10 other states; see Binance.US available states for the full list. Sign-ins can fail because of state rules even after a password reset.

If you’ve moved to a supported state, update your personal information and request reactivation. Binance.US says you may need to verify your identity and provide proof of residency again.

4. Identity verification failed or isn’t finished

Basic verification needs your full legal name, date of birth, Social Security number, and a street address (PO boxes aren’t accepted). Advanced verification adds a driver’s license, state ID, or passport, plus a selfie. The details you entered at sign-up must match your ID exactly. Binance.US rejects expired IDs, IDs that aren’t visible corner to corner, birth certificates, and non-US government IDs. If your account was disabled soon after you opened it, send the extra documents Binance.US asks for by email, or contact support.

Other reasons in Binance.US’s terms

Binance.US’s Terms of Use let it suspend or restrict an account “for any reason or no reason whatsoever,” and they name specific cases:

  • opening multiple accounts without its written consent, or abusing promotions
  • a law, regulation, or court order that requires it
  • extra “Enhanced Due Diligence” documents you haven’t provided (Binance.US reserves the right to charge you for the cost of that review)
  • signing in from a device whose operating system has been modified or tampered with
  • using an anonymizing proxy, false information, or the platform in an unlawful way
  • the death of the account holder, which freezes the account

How to reactivate a disabled Binance.US account

If you disabled it yourself

Binance.US’s self-serve reactivation tool, launched in June 2026, works only in a web browser, on a computer or a phone. Have a valid government ID and a phone with a camera ready.

  1. Sign in on the Binance.US website with your username and password.
  2. Complete the 2FA check.
  3. Click Begin Verification.
  4. Scan the QR code with your phone to continue the process there.
  5. Follow the identity steps on your phone, including a photo of your government ID. If you have to stop, sign in again and click Restart this step.
  6. Wait for the review without closing or refreshing the page.
  7. Click Go to Login if it succeeds. If it fails, choose the option to contact support.

An older Binance.US FAQ still says you can’t reactivate without support; the self-serve tool replaced that for eligible accounts.

If Binance.US disabled it

Fix the cause first: settle the balance, send the verification documents, or update your address after moving to a supported state. Then contact support through chat. If you don’t know why your account was disabled, Binance.US says to contact support so it can explain.

Locked out of Binance.US? Sign-in and 2FA problems

  • Too many failed sign-ins: wait before trying again. One Binance.US page says 24 hours; another says 2 hours.
  • Lost your 2FA device: reset 2FA through the sign-in page, using the same ID you used to sign up. The review typically takes 48 to 72 hours, and withdrawals are then locked for another 48 hours.
  • Lost access to your email: don’t open a new account with a new email address. Contact support instead.
  • Typed your password into a fake site: reset your password immediately and start a live chat. Real sign-in pages begin with binance.us/login or https://www.binance.us/login (opens in a new tab).
  • Opened your account before September 2019: it may be a Binance.com account, not a Binance.US one. Binance.US support can’t help with Binance.com accounts.

How long Binance.US reviews take

Binance.US publishes only a few timelines:

Review Binance.US’s stated time
Documents after a chargeback or negative balance 24 to 72 hours
2FA reset 48 to 72 hours, then a 48-hour withdrawal lock
Self-serve reactivation Shown on screen when the review finishes
Account deletion Up to 2 hours
Law-enforcement freeze May last two weeks
Formal complaint Within 30 business days

There’s no published timeline for fraud-alert reviews or for reactivations handled by support.

What happens to your money if your account closes

If Binance.US closes it. Its terms say returning your assets is “subject to the restrictions imposed by law, regulation, court orders, technical capabilities, best practices,” and that it “does not commit to any timeline or method for the transfer of such assets.” Assets worth less than the minimum order size can be converted to USD or a stablecoin such as USDT.

If it goes dormant. Inactive accounts can be turned over to your state as unclaimed property, a process called escheatment. Binance.US’s pages give different time frames (2, 3, or 2 to 5 years of inactivity), so don’t cut it close: signing in now and then prevents it. Binance.US may have to convert your crypto to dollars first, which can be a taxable event. It emails you after the transfer, and you can then claim the money through your state’s unclaimed property program.

If Binance.US leaves your state. Funds can be escheated when Binance.US stops operating in a state. Connecticut is a recent example: trading was disabled after August 22, 2025, and leftover funds that weren’t claimed by check can be claimed from the Connecticut Treasurer’s unclaimed property division. When Oregon revoked Binance.US’s license in 2024, Oregon’s regulator says remaining crypto was converted to cash and sent to the state’s unclaimed property program.

If you delete it yourself. Your combined balance must be under $10, with no open orders, pending deposits or withdrawals, or chargebacks, and you must request it from within the US. Anything left after deletion is forfeited. Binance.US keeps your identity and transaction records for six years, and a later chargeback reinstates the account. To come back, speak with an agent; you can’t register again with the same SSN, email, or phone number.

How to contact Binance.US support

Use the chat: in the app, tap your profile icon, then Get Help and Send us a message; on the website, click the yellow help icon in the lower right corner. Human agents are available 7 days a week from 6 a.m. to midnight Eastern time, and Binance.US also lists a weekday phone line on its official contact page (opens in a new tab). If support can’t resolve your issue, you can email a formal complaint to resolutions@binance.us, quoting your support ticket.

The FTC warns that scammers pay to put fake customer-service numbers in search results and then ask for money, gift cards, personal details, or remote access to your computer. If you’ve been targeted, see where to report a scam.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Binance.US account restricted?

Binance.US lists four common reasons: an unpaid negative balance from a failed or reversed deposit, a fraud alert, living in a state it doesn't serve, and failed identity verification. Its terms also allow restrictions for legal orders, multiple accounts, abusing promotions, or missing documents it has asked for.

How do I reactivate my Binance.US account?

If you disabled it yourself, sign in on the Binance.US website, complete 2FA, click Begin Verification, and finish the ID check on your phone. The self-serve tool only works in a web browser. Can I open a new Binance.US account if mine is disabled?

No. Binance.US allows one account per Social Security number, rejects duplicate accounts created to get around a deactivation, and says support won't help while the original account still exists.

What happens to my crypto if Binance.US closes my account?

Binance.US's terms say it will return your assets subject to laws, court orders, and technical limits, without committing to a timeline or method.
