Yes, you can transfer bitcoin into Schwab Crypto, as long as Schwab has turned on crypto transfers for your account. Schwab is “rolling out in phases” the ability to send and receive crypto and says it “will inform you via email when your account has been enabled.” Once you’re enrolled, you can receive bitcoin on the Bitcoin network and ether on the Ethereum network, with no fee from Schwab.
That’s a change from launch. Schwab’s April 2026 announcement said deposits and withdrawals would come “over time,” and early news coverage reported that Schwab Crypto launched without transfers. Here’s how it works now, from Schwab’s own FAQ and pricing guide as of October 21, 2026.
Transferring crypto into Schwab at a glance
| Bitcoin (BTC) | Ether (ETH) | |
|---|---|---|
| Supported network | Bitcoin network only | Ethereum network only |
| Minimum deposit | 0.00001 BTC | 0.0001 ETH |
| Maximum deposits | $50 million per month (all deposits) | $50 million per month (all deposits) |
| Confirmations before it’s credited | 3 (about 30 minutes) | 12 (about 3 minutes) |
| Schwab’s fee to receive | $0 | $0 |
| Who can use it | Accounts Schwab has enabled for crypto transfers | Accounts Schwab has enabled for crypto transfers |
Step 1: Check that your account can transfer crypto
You need two things before you can receive crypto:
- An open Schwab Crypto account. A Schwab brokerage account on its own can’t hold or receive coins. If you don’t have one yet, apply from your brokerage account on Schwab.com or in Schwab Mobile. Approval can take up to two business days.
- Crypto transfers enabled. Schwab says: “To ensure a smooth and reliable experience, the ability to transfer crypto is being rolled out in phases to eligible clients with a Schwab Crypto account.” Watch for Schwab’s email telling you your account has been enabled.
If you don’t see a Transfer Crypto option yet, your account most likely hasn’t been enabled. Schwab’s FAQ doesn’t describe a way to request early access, so watch for the email.
Step 2: Enroll in crypto transfers
Enrolling is a one-time setup. Schwab requires a passkey for crypto transfers as “an extra level of protection.”
- Log in on Schwab.com or in the Schwab Mobile app and select More.
- Go to Transfer & Pay and select Transfer Crypto, then Continue.
- Verify your identity when asked.
- Set up a passkey. You’ll use it to approve sensitive crypto activity, such as adding a wallet address or sending crypto.
Schwab says that “once enrolled, you can deposit crypto, add addresses to your allowlist, and send crypto securely.” Only account owners who are enrolled can send coins out of the account.
Step 3: Get your Schwab deposit address and send the bitcoin
- On Schwab.com or in the Schwab Mobile app, go to Transfer & Pay, then Transfer Crypto, and select Receive Crypto.
- Choose the coin and network: Bitcoin on the Bitcoin network, or Ethereum on the Ethereum network. Schwab shows a receiving address.
- Copy the address exactly. Paste it rather than typing it, and check the first and last few characters.
- In the exchange or wallet you’re sending from, start a bitcoin withdrawal and paste the Schwab address.
- Select the Bitcoin network in the sending app. If it offers other networks for bitcoin, don’t pick them.
- Send a small test amount first, at least the 0.00001 BTC minimum. When it shows up in Schwab, send the rest.
After your deposit is confirmed on the blockchain, Schwab’s Transfer Details shows a link to a block explorer, a third-party site where you can see the transaction. Schwab notes it doesn’t own or control that site.
How long a deposit takes to show up
Schwab credits crypto after a set number of blockchain confirmations:
- Bitcoin: 3 confirmations, about 30 minutes.
- Ether: 12 confirmations, about 3 minutes.
Schwab adds that “processing times can be longer due to internal reviews,” and that limits and restrictions may apply “based on various factors, including Schwab internal reviews.” The clock also starts only when the sending platform broadcasts your withdrawal. If your exchange holds the withdrawal first, see our guides to Kraken withdrawals on hold and Robinhood Crypto transfers under review.
What it costs to move crypto into Schwab
- Schwab charges nothing. “Schwab does not charge a fee to send or receive crypto.”
- The sending side may charge. Schwab’s pricing guide says: “You will be responsible for any network fees charged directly to you by third-parties for any on-chain transfer into the third-party Subcustodian’s wallet.” In plain terms, the exchange or wallet you send from may deduct a withdrawal fee or network fee.
- Trading later costs 0.75%. Receiving coins is free, but selling them inside Schwab Crypto costs 0.75% of the sale. See Schwab Crypto fees.
Limits and minimums for deposits
| Limit | Bitcoin | Ether |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum per deposit | 0.00001 BTC | 0.0001 ETH |
| Maximum | $50 million per month | $50 million per month |
Make sure the amount that arrives, after your sending platform takes its fee, is above Schwab’s minimum. Schwab doesn’t say what happens to deposits below it.
Moving crypto between your own Schwab Crypto accounts
If you have more than one Schwab Crypto account, each linked to a different brokerage account, you can move coins between them. Schwab says it works “just like sending crypto to an external wallet”: add the receiving account’s address to your allowlist, wait at least 24 hours for it to activate, then send. Schwab’s withdrawal limits apply: up to 3 withdrawals per 24 hours and $5,000 per transfer.
Sending crypto out of Schwab
Once you’re enrolled, you can also send bitcoin and ether to an outside wallet. The rules are stricter than for deposits:
- You can only send to an address on your allowlist, and a new address needs “a minimum 24-hour cooldown period” before you can use it. Schwab may deny an address after its review.
- Withdrawals are limited to 3 per 24 hours and $5,000 per transfer, and Schwab says these limits “cannot be manually increased at this time.”
- Each send carries a blockchain network fee, quoted before you confirm.

Stay safe when you move crypto
Schwab’s own safety checklist: verify the address, “use the verified network,” and “if in doubt, try sending a small amount first.” Transfers can’t be canceled or reversed once sent.
