Schwab Crypto lets you buy two coins today: bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH). Schwab has announced three more, solana (SOL), avalanche (AVAX), and chainlink (LINK), for “the coming months,” but as of October 22, 2026, its FAQ still lists only bitcoin and ether. Any other coin, such as XRP or dogecoin, isn’t available in Schwab Crypto.

Here’s exactly what you can trade and transfer, what’s coming, and how to get other crypto exposure at Schwab.

Why only bitcoin and ether so far

At launch, Schwab described bitcoin and ether as “two of the most well-known and established cryptocurrencies, which together represent approximately three-quarters of the crypto market capitalization.” Its August 2026 expansion announcement said Schwab plans “to thoughtfully expand its digital asset offering with established cryptocurrencies that align with client demand.”

On August 27, 2026, Schwab announced that “in the coming months, Schwab Crypto clients will be able to buy and sell solana, avalanche, and chainlink.” It didn’t give a date. Schwab also said it “plans to add additional cryptocurrencies and digital assets to the Schwab Crypto platform over time,” but hasn’t named any others.

Until the new coins appear in Schwab’s FAQ and on the order ticket, you can’t buy them in Schwab Crypto. We check Schwab’s FAQ regularly and will update this page when they launch.

Which coins you can send or receive

Transfers are narrower than trading in one way: each coin works on one network only.

  • Bitcoin: “Bitcoin (Bitcoin network).”
  • Ether: “Ethereum (Ethereum network).”

Schwab warns that “your assets may be lost and unrecoverable if you transfer an unsupported crypto asset or use an unsupported network.” That includes other tokens on the Ethereum network and ether sent over other networks. See how to transfer bitcoin into Schwab Crypto and how to withdraw crypto from Schwab.

Does Schwab have its own coin?

No. Schwab’s FAQ: “Schwab did not create and does not issue its own cryptocurrency or token.” Anyone selling a “Schwab coin” or “Schwab token” is running a scam.

Other ways to get crypto exposure at Schwab

Schwab Crypto is the only way to own coins directly at Schwab, but Schwab lists five ways to invest in crypto: “direct ownership, stocks, exchange-traded products, options, and futures.” Schwab’s launch announcement mentions “spot cryptocurrency Exchange-traded products (ETPs), crypto futures, options on spot crypto ETPs, crypto-related ETFs and mutual funds that invest in the broader digital asset ecosystem.” These are held in a brokerage or futures account, and you own shares or contracts rather than coins. Compare the costs in Schwab Crypto vs a bitcoin ETF.

How Schwab’s coin list compares

E*Trade, Schwab’s closest brokerage rival for crypto, offers “Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana,” according to its crypto FAQ. Crypto exchanges such as Coinbase and Kraken list many more assets. See Schwab Crypto vs E*Trade crypto and Schwab Crypto vs Coinbase.
